MIS-SK Experience Morning

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of welcoming another large group of families to a Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) focused experience morning, as part of our student enrollment process for August 2023. Despite the heavy rainfall, we were delighted by the large number of parents and children who arrived at our campus ‘Ready Ay Ready’ to participate in the activities and find out what makes MIS Shekou a British international school of academic excellence and a school that students love to learn in.

At our experience morning, the students participated in 3 of the sports CCA activities that we offer at MIS Shekou: Sailing, Fencing and Golf.

Parents, also, had the opportunity to meet the leadership team, enjoy some traditional British refreshments and find out more about the British education system and our bespoke MIS curriculum.

IPC Exit Point in Year 2

Our Year 2 students are coming to the end (Exit Point) of their unit of learning, ‘The Earth, Our Home’, where they have been researching and learning about living things-plants, animals and people- and their habitats. The exit point helps students to pull together their learning from the entire unit alongside celebrate the learning that has taken place. This week our Year 2 students have been busy preparing their exit point presentations about the importance of protecting rainforests from deforestation, which will be shared with their parents.

Persuasive Text in Year 5 EAL

To ensure that all of our students reach their full potential, we stream our English lessons based on the children’s language abilities. This means that learning and teaching is personalised to the needs of all students which results in accelerated academic progress. This week, our Year 5 EAL (English as an Additional Language) students have been developing their spoken English skills through the genre of ‘Persuasive Text’. The children were tasked with creating a video to persuade an audience to save water, as part of their IPC unit of learning, ‘Water for Everyone’. This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to practice their English speaking and writing skills, alongside learn new technology skills such as filming and editing videos.

为了确保我们所有的学生都能充分发挥他们的潜力,我们根据孩子们的语言能力来安排我们的英语课程。这意味着学习和教学是个性化的,以满足所有学生的需求,从而加快学术进步。本周,我们五年级的EAL(英语作为附加语言)学生通过 "劝说性文字 "的体裁来发展他们的英语口语技能。孩子们的任务是制作一段视频,劝说观众节约用水,作为IPC学习单元 "人人有水 "的一部分。这是一个很好的机会,可以让孩子们练习他们的英语口语和写作技能,同时学习到新的技能,比如拍摄和剪辑视频。
